Shoplifter Booked at San Diego Central Jail after Attacking Security Guards

A spokesperson for the San Diego Police Department has confirmed that 22-year-old Matthew Hoag has been arrested and booked at the San Diego Central Jail after he was arrested for shoplifting in Point Loma.

The incident happened in early-December, according to Fox5 San Diego, and it began when he tried to steal items from a local grocery store.

When security guards tried to stop him, the suspect attacked them with a knife. One guard was stabbed in the leg and a second security officer sustained an injury to his finger.

Passersby managed to detain Hoag until SDPD officials arrived on scene.

Hoag has been charged with second degree robbery and his bail bonds have been set at $50,000. Should he or his family want to hire a San Diego bail bonds agent, their fee will be 10%, or in this case, $5,000.
